I'LL HOLD YOU (Original Version)
Outta Sight recently unearthed a long forgotten and previously unissued version of the Northern Soul cult classic 'I'll Hold You' by Frankie & Johnny. The duo from Glasgow, real names, Maggie Bell and Bobby Kerr, cut the song in '66 for UK Hickory. It was released in the US on Hickory 1391 and leased to Decca in the UK. A firm favourite on the Northern Soul scene it has, for years, been sought after by British collectors. This superb version with Johnny's vocals upfront and the addition of a distinctive Hammond organ is set to get its first ever release on UK Soul specialist label Real Side Records. Outta Sight can also reveal the source of this recording that was reputed to have been made backstage at Top Of The Pops. It was actually recorded Tuesday 24th May 1966 for Rediffusion's 'Five O'Clock Club' where Frankie & Johnny shared the bill with Alexis Korner, Gerry Marsden, The Dave Clark Five and Ronnie Carroll.
